In Lithuania there are two main governmental funding agencies:
Research Council of Lithuania has been founded 1991 to fulfil the role of an expert institution tackling challenges of science development on a national level. The Council is a counsellor of the Lithuanian Parliament and the Government on research and researchers training issues, implements programme based competitive funding of research, administers most important Lithuanian science development programmes, evaluates research performance and represents Lithuanian science in various European institutions and other international organisations.
Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology
Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology (MITA) is the main governmental institution, responsible for implementation of innovation policy in Lithuania. Briefly, it is a national innovation agency. MITA provides free of charge services for clients from business, science and public sectors, interested in possibilities to develop strong cooperation relations with international partners and get financial support for research and innovation projects.
In Lithuania there are 45 higher education institutions: 14 state and 8 non-state universities, 13 state colleges and 11 non-state colleges; 13 state and 8 non-state research institutes and centers which focus their activities on conducting applied research and development activities.
EURAXESS provides a free service that research institutions can make use of for researchers, with dedicated staff providing advice on career development opportunities.
